7th annual Journée de la Francophonie -

Established in 2019, Journée de la Francophonie brings together high school students enrolled in French classes from across San Antonio and beyond. This annual event celebrates the richness of the Francophone world through language, culture, and community engagement.
“The goal is to introduce high school students to the world of French speakers and Francophone cultures beyond the walls of their classrooms,” explains Charles Matt, former President of the Alliance Française of San Antonio. “It was created to broaden students’ horizons, offer a day of discovery and enjoyment around the French language, and ultimately encourage them to continue studying French.”
Each year, the event welcomes more than 200 high school students, university students, educators, Francophones, and Francophiles from across the region. Through presentations on French language and culture, as well as friendly competitions in prepared and impromptu readings, poetry, music, and art, students are encouraged to challenge their French skills while having fun and building confidence.
For the 2026 edition, held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at UT San Antonio’s Main Campus,
the Journée de la Francophonie will explore the theme:
“The Francophone world: A world of opportunities.”
A new and exciting element will be introduced this year: a Professional Forum dedicated to studies, internships, and career
opportunities in the United States and abroad. The Forum aims to show students how multilingualism and multicultural experiences can open
doors in today’s global job market.
The event is supported by key partners including the Alliance Française de San Antonio, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in Houston, and Lingco.
