La Haine –

Mathieu Kassovitz’s landmark 1995 film La Haine (Hate) remains profoundly relevant. A cinematic masterpiece, the black-and-white film explores themes of police brutality, systemic racism, and social alienation, proving as potent today as upon its 1995 Cannes debut. The film follows three friends—Vinz, Hubert, and Saïd—in the Parisian banlieues the day after a violent riot. Marking the 30th anniversary of its official US release (1996), AFSA is proud to present a screening of La Haine, followed by a panel discussion led by TPR’s Nathan Cone.
