AFSA at San Antonio Museum of Art - 2026
To mark the occasion, we're gathering at the San Antonio Museum of Art for a special guided tour of New African Masquerades: Artistic Innovations and Collaborations — SAMA's first major African art exhibition in over 20 years.
The exhibition brings together the work of four contemporary artists from West Africa — including Hervé Youmbi from Cameroon — presenting thirteen full-body masquerade ensembles made from wood, textiles, beads, feathers, and shells, alongside immersive video. It's a rare and remarkable look at masquerade as a living, contemporary art form.
Whether you're a longtime AFSA member, a francophile, or simply curious about African art and culture, this is a wonderful afternoon to explore, discover, and connect.
