Week 1: Le Petit Prince w/Khadija (In-Person –Location: 8900 Starcrest)

Le Petit Prince is often described as a “children’s book for grown-ups”. It is a charming tale about life and friendship. Students will learn about the author, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry; practice speaking French, reading aloud in class; and engage in group discussions about the central themes of the book. Students have the choice to purchase a copy of the book or find/download their own PDF copy to use in class.  This class is not suitable for Absolute Beginners.

A la carte class: Wednesday, September 17^th @ 6:30pm – 8pm. 

French is filled with homophones, words that are spelled differently, but are pronounced the same way, for example: la mer, la mère, and le maire.

Each set of homophones will be followed by an exercise. All exercises will be done in class. No homework, just a fun time!

This class is suitable for A2 (Advanced Beginners) or A1.5 students. This class is not suitable for Absolute Beginners.

The focus of this 2-week class is Noël. Practice French while learning about the unique holiday traditions of France. Classes will be comprised of some lecturing and shared texts to be read aloud by students for practice speaking. At the end of this course, students will know vocabulary words associated with les decorations et le sapin and classic chant-- Petit Papa Noël. This class is suitable for A2 (Advanced Beginners) or A1.5 students. This class is not suitable for Absolute Beginners.

Tuesdays, December 9^th, 16^th (2-weeks) 9am - 10:30am.

This course addresses common lexical challenges for students of French such as verbs that require specific prepositions or no preposition, pairing direct and indirect objects with verbs, false cognates, and French words with multiple meanings. This class is not intended for absolute beginners.

You’ll also learn the vocabulary related to the news. And also how to express your opinion. This class will be conducted using French and English, as needed.

During class, each participant will take its turn reading a part of the text they selected, and they’ll get instant feedback. These feedbacks will be useful to all participants on how to improve their pronunciation.

For reading out loud, it’s necessary to understand the text you’re reading. It will be each participant’s job to do that work prior to the class. The main focus of this class will be pronunciation. This class will be conducted using French and English, as needed. This class is not suitable for Absolute Beginners.
